The DAC meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, 10-25-2023, at 3:30 PM. The meeting is at 3:30 PM instead of 4 PM so staff members and parents can attend the last 8th grade middle school volleyball home game and be there to honor our 8th graders. We hope to see you all there!
Laytonville Elementary students were treated to a fun assembly presented by Forward BMX! We learned about bicycle safety, saw amazing tricks and cheered brave LES staff who volunteered for a stunt!

Culinary Arts has been cooking up a feast to go along with the Homecoming Dance for high school students tonight starting at 8:30 at the High School. The menu includes: salsa, ceviche, jalapeno poppers, charcuterie board, artichoke dip, turkey pinwheels, brownies, peanut butter spider cookies, chocolate caramel cookies, bizcochitos, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, brown butter rice crispy treats, apple turnovers and more! The High School Homecoming Dance is $5 at the door and includes a food lounge, game room, and Dance Hall.
Laytonville High School Students have been competing in class competitions throughout this 2023 Homecoming Week. Students participate in dress up competitions, games, float building, mural painting, and movie making. The winning class will be announced at tonight's Homecoming Game v. Potter Valley which starts at 6pm.
The LHS volleyball game today against Mendocino is a double header for varsity only and the first game starts at 5:00 PM. We hope to see you all there!
Our first District Advisory Committee (DAC) meeting of the school year will be held tomorrow, 9/20/2023, at 4:00 PM in the District Office Board Room. Come support our middle school volleyball teams as they play their first home games tonight against Round Valley. The B Team game is at 4:00 p.m. and the A Team game is at 5:00 p.m. in the Tin Gym. Welcome back to the 2023-2024 school year! We hope you all had a wonderful summer break. We wanted to remind everyone that the first day of school is tomorrow, Thursday, August 17th and it is an early release day for both schools. The elementary school students will begin their classes at 8:20 a.m. and will be released at 1:30 p.m. The high school students start at 8:25 a.m. and will be released at 1:45 p.m. School meals are free to students again this year but please complete the income form in the first day packets. This really helps with our school meal funding. Breakfast will be served at the elementary school in the cafeteria from 8:00 a.m. to 8:20 a.m., middle school students can get brunch from 10:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., and brunch will be served at the high school from 10:23 a.m. to 10:31 a.m. Please remember to avoid parking in the bus zone at both school sites. Dear Laytonville Elementary School Parents,
Welcome to the 2023-24 school year. I hope all of you have had a restful and enjoyable summer. We are eagerly anticipating the opening of the school year on August 17, 2023.
Our custodial staff has been working diligently getting the classrooms and grounds ready. The playground and parking lot are completed and the kitchen remodel should also be finished at the start of the school year.
All staff have been working hard to prepare for the start of the year by attending various trainings. They look forward to serving your students at Laytonville Elementary/Middle School. I’d like to welcome Raquel Thomson to our elementary teaching staff. Administration is working on staffing for classes and class lists. The class lists will be posted Wednesday, August 16th.
Last year the staff began training in a social emotional program called RULER. RULER is an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that supports school communities in: Understanding the value of emotions, building the skills of emotional intelligence and creating and maintaining positive school climates. This year teachers will teach the RULER curriculum in their classrooms. This program is brought to us through the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. 2023 Freshman Academy kicked off today with three sessions including orientation, PE/sports, and Public Safety. Public Safety students learned some new knots in their session today. This program is open to incoming 9th graders at LHS and runs from 9-12 M/T/W/Th and culminates in a Cal Poly Humboldt field trip on Friday. Students can earn their first two credits of their High School career.
The rest of the week students will work with our Art, Welding, Building Trades, English, Culinary Arts, and Computer Teachers and hear from Mendocino College and our student panel. Come out and join us
On June 1, Laytonville Unified graduated five students from the English Language Development program. These students have shown through their hard work that in addition to their rich family linguistic and cultural heritage, they are able to excel in the classroom with their English speaking peers.
